High-speed steel contains a lot of Mo, V, Cr and other elements made with alloys. Tempering martensite dispersed with MC, M2C and M6C high hardness eutectic carbide, which has excellent high temperature wear resistance and thermal cracking resistance, and anti-rough surface type is also very good. In the hot-rolled conditions, high-speed steel surface wear- resistant oxide film, the friction characteristics and the surface quality of the strip played a good role.

HIGH SPEED STEEL ROLL PROPERTIES
Main characteristics of HSS rolls are the higher hardness of the shell improving the wear resistance and High temperature resistance property due to the higher presence of Cr/Mo/W/V in the composition. Now eventually these characteristics leads to below benefits on the rolling process-
Improved Quality – Due to higher wear resistance property compared to DPIC/ SG iron rolls- the frictional impact during each pass on the HSS rolls are minimum resulting better quality of rolled product for a longer tenure . The tenure- can be converted to the tangible volume of rolled product with ease.
- Improved Machine Availability – HSS rolls can produce defect free products for a longer period of time due to the higher wear resistance capability . Now this tenure is directly
proportional to a specific machine maintenance parameter –MTBF (Mean time between failures) and hence resulting in to far better machine availability and less machine down
time. - Better Productivity – Less down time and improved quality acts upon the machine operational parameters thereby increasing the daily productivity

SPHEROIDAL GRAPHITE IRON ROLLING MILL ROLL
Spheroidal Graphite Iron Rolls are casted from specific type of iron compound where the free carbon takes the shape of spheroids or nodules, thereby eliminating the notch effect of flake graphite and improving upon the mechanical properties of the cast iron. These are of mainly following types:
Pearlitic Spheroidal Graphite Iron Rolling Mill Rolls:
Pearlitic spheroidal Graphite rolls have a thick layer of cast iron with nodular graphite. The name of such roll is based on the fact that the material consists of nodular graphite and carbides in a pearlitic matrix. The softest grades have a pearlitic matrix containing ferrite around the graphite nodules, while the higher hardness grades have a complete pearlitic matrix. The Carbide content increases proportionately with the hardness. The hardness is covered in quite a big range, from 40 degrees shore C to 70 degrees shore C depending on the rolled product or as per customer requirement..
Acicular Spheroidal Graphite Iron Rolling Mill Rolls:
Acicular spheroidal Graphite Rolls also have a thick layer of Cast Iron with nodular graphite. Here, the name of such roll is based on the fact that the material consists of nodular graphite and carbides in a pearlitic – bainitic matrix. The carbide content is considerably higher in the harder grades than the softer ones. The hardness range varies from 60 degrees shore to 80 degrees shore.
